Mary Thornton Fordham 1915 ~ 2006 Mary Thornton Fordham, age 91, passed away peacefully while asleep, of natural causes incident to age, on Feb. 12, 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born on February 5, 1915 in Logan, Utah to James Whitaker and Nellie Schofield Thornton. She attended Farrer Junior High, Provo High, and BYU. She married Alton DeVere Fordham on Feb. 2, 1934 in Provo, Utah. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mary was blessed with the gift of making deep and wide ranging friendships, and with a passion for reading and learning. She had a love of family, church, sports and cooking. She served with distinction in leadership positions in the PTA, Relief Society and Community councils. She was active in women's volleyball leagues. She managed to be both an independent thinker and a very loyal supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband Alton DeVere and her second son James Carl and brother Read Thornton. She is survived by her sons Paul (Pat) Laughlin of NV and Michael (Barbara) SLC, UT, 11 grandchildren: Jim, Todd, Barbara, Mark, Mike, Shelly, Jim, Michael, Jennifer, Christopher and Brigham and 20 great-grandchildren. In all her roles and relationships Mary was a vivacious, generous and a noble lady who was loved by many and will be remembered as an example of honesty and passion. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2006 at 12:00 at Mount Olympus Seventh Ward at 4407 Fortuna Way. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary located at 3401 S. Highland Drive and again one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Interment in Santa Clara, Utah Cemetery on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.
