Tracy Booth's claim that we all pay for undocumented immigrants (Readers' Forum, Feb. 18) is telling of how frail our social conscience has become. In addition to the sobering display of insensitivity toward those "illegals" tragically affected in an accident in California, Booth seems to ignore the larger implications of her financial claim. What about the 120 million cost-effective man-hours offered every day by "illegals" to ensure that we enjoy life's pleasures while they, themselves, toil to provide for their children's necessities? Who benefits from those $500 billion in unclaimed Social Security paycheck deductions without the offsetting retirement benefits?
