One man was arrested and detectives were looking for possible accomplices following a residential burglary Monday in unincorporated Salt Lake County.
Shortly before 1 p.m., a woman arrived at her house near 7100 South and 1800 East and found an unknown man inside, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Paul Brenneman said.
The man ran out the door carrying a bag, he said. Sheriff's deputies spotted him about a block away from the house, he said.
The man also saw the deputies and tried to avoid them by sitting down, holding his head down and pretending like he was talking on a cell phone, Brenneman said. When he realized they weren't fooled and still coming toward him, he took off running. Deputies caught up with the man about a block away and arrested him.
Investigators were still trying to determine Monday afternoon what was stolen from the house. Deputies had not located the bag the man was seen running off with.
No other burglaries were reported in the area, but the man claimed he wasn't working alone, Brenneman said. Investigators were trying to verify if that was true. Brenneman said there were no signs of forced entry at the woman's house, and the man probably entered through an unlocked sliding glass door.
