A Pygmy woman peers out from her forest home in the village of Mpha, Democratic Republic of Congo. But she and her colleagues may soon have fewer trees for their home. Pygmy chief Mbomba Bokenu says he may soon let loggers cut his tribe's forests, and all he expects in return are soap and a few bags of salt. Proposed rules meant to ensure that forest communities benefit from the wealth around them may come too late to help members of the tribe, most of whom are poor and illiterate.
