Ceylon Jerry Hawkes 1924 ~ 2006 Ceylon Jerry Hawkes, born March 13, 1924, peacefully passed away on April 5, 2006. Known to his loved ones as "CJ," the son of Ceylon C. Hawkes and Eloise Humphrey, grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from West High School in 1942. He served as a paratrooper in the US Army Airborne Division during the Korean War, earning several distinguished awards. A life-long business man in the oil industry, CJ was known as a man of integrity, quiet strength, kindness, and humor. He was a dedicated member of the LDS church, serving as our family's guiding patriarch. CJ was graced with the love of a wonderful woman, Betty Marie Holbrook, and his three adoring children. He married Betty, his sweetheart, companion, and life long friend, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on May 15, 1947. He is survived by his wife Betty, his children: Karen and Steve Young, Gregg C. Hawkes and Marilyn Kehl, and David K. Hawkes. CJ is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends may call Sunday, April 9, 2006, at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Fulfilling CJ's wish, a private family funeral and graveside service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006.
