Julia E. Ulibarri 1936 ~ 2006 Julia E. Mitchell (Hammon, Leigh) Ulibarri passed away at her home April 6, 2006 after a year and half battle with cancer. She was 69. Julie was born August 25, 1936 in Upalco, Utah to Ira Ambrose and Gladys Mern Howells Mitchell. She moved to Owyhee, Oregon at age two and then back to Salt Lake City, Utah in the 6th grade through 11th grade, then returned to Owyhee Oregon, where she graduated from high school. She is survived by her four children, Robert Kim (DeAnna) Hammon of Sandy, Sheri (David) Canata of Draper, Jeff Hammon of West Jordan, Lori (Brent) Griffin of West Jordan; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ted Mitchell of Salt Lake City, UT; three sisters, Joy Osborn of Tabiona, Utah, Mona Diemond of Kennewick, WA, Loma (Joe) Bennett of West Valley, Utah; 18 nieces; and 12 nephews. Julie is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mern (Nina) Maze; three brothers, Bud Mitchell, Jean Mitchell, and Verd Mitchell. Since the 1960's Julie worked in the film service industry at companies such as Western Film Service, Stockdale Corporation, and Sun Photo Service. This explains her always having a camera in hand. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved and enjoyed her family and friends and had many passions in life including bird watching, genealogy, golf, archery, and crocheting. For many years she made and painted ceramics and then tried her hand at portrait and landscape painting. She wrote poetry, played the piano, and listened to Country and Western music. She truly enjoyed watching old movies and was a big fan of John Wayne. She collected rocks and cacti, which she used to build cactus gardens in her yard. She and her passions will be greatly missed. Special thanks to Mom's doctors and to the Heartwood Hospice for the loving care she received in her last days. Julie chose cremation and there will be no formal funeral. Family and friends are invited to a memorial open house in her honor the 13th of April from 6-9 p.m. at the home of her daughter, 1601 E. 13200 So. Draper, Utah.
