Olger Olander Raaum "Ole" Olger Olander Raaum was born July 7, 1922 in Williston, North Dakota and was the seventh of eight children born to Ole and Ellen Raaum. At the age of 17 he joined the service to fight in World War II. He received a Silver Star for approaching within 50 yards of enemy positions, picked up a soldier too wounded to move and although harassed by enemy fire carried him across muddy mine fields to a place of comparative safety, 500 yards distance, where first aid was administered. After the war Ole settled in Minnesota where he met and married Kathryne Erhardt. Ole's job as a construction worker sent the couple throughout the Dakota's and into Colorado. Needing to raise three children the family settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ole helped build many of the homes in neighborhoods around Salt Lake. After retiring in the Construction business he became an amateur antique and collectable dealer. He found many treasures and could spot a valuable antique like the professionals. He became best friends with Kenny Newburg who had an antique store downtown. Ole supplied many of the items sold in Kenny's store. He had a passion for reading and a love for old out of print books. His house was always filled with old books, making interesting conversation of which he enjoyed with his friends. He had a very positive outlook on life. His motto was "I just want to live until I die. I have no regrets, my life has been good." Ole died on April 2, 2006, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his ex-wife Kate Raaum; two son's Bob and James (Diane), a daughter Barbara Fox, his four grandchildren; Heather, Maressa, Jessica, Donovan, and four great-grandchildren; Levi, Zoyee, Ike, and Payton . Ole will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC with Military Honors, April 25th 2006 at 1:15 p.m. Ole has requested no funeral services and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your favorite charity. The family would like to thank LDS Hospital M.ICU and R.ICU staff for their great care of Ole. Thanks to Barb and Diane for Ole's last four years. Directors, Garner Funeral Home.
