Dave Argyle (Readers' Forum, April 7) defines the word criminal and attributes it to undocumented immigrants. By his definition, are we not all criminals? Have we not all broken one law or another at some point during our lives?

I would bet that, by his definition, even Mr. Argyle is a criminal. I am sure that at some time since learning to drive he has exceeded the speed limit, not come to a full stop before turning right or even neglected to use his turn signal prior to changing lanes. Yet I would also bet he would not think of himself as a criminal.

Labeling others does little but force people we don't care to understand into narrowly defined categories. That makes it easier to pretend they are not real people with real problems.
