I've been reading the Readers' Forum with dismay lately. I understand the purpose is to allow open conversation, but why does the paper allow obvious misrepresentations of fact?

The most recent is the Emerito Torres letter on April 7. He states that the media are suppressing FAA records that show no major airline has crashed in five years. His point verges on right-wing propaganda.

I would like to remind your readers of not just the Sept. 11 airplanes that either crashed into buildings or the ground, but also of the American Airlines plane that went down in November 2001, killing 251 people, and the US Airways plane that went down in January 2003, killing 21, and the Southwest Airlines plane that slid off the runway in Chicago, killing a young boy.

May all rest in peace.
