SLATERVILLE, Weber County — Police have arrested seven people in connection with a weekend brawl outside a truck stop that involved punches, kicking and baseball bats.
Weber County sheriff's deputies said that prior to the April 1 fight, two people had been involved in a dispute for several days over a girlfriend. The confrontations escalated in the parking lot of a Pilot Travel Center in the Marriott-Slaterville area, said Weber County sheriff's detective Mark Lowther.
"The two main players were having the confrontation," he said Monday. "Their friends and associates joined in."
Investigators believe as many as 15 people may have been involved in the fight. Passers-by and people at the truck stop called 911 to report the trouble.
"When our first officer arrived on scene, there were two individuals that had bats and were squared off, fighting each other," Lowther said.
Many others ran when police arrived. The seven arrested were booked into the Weber County Jail on investigation of rioting.
