A Salt Lake woman is among three in the United States honored in Paris with Women of the Earth awards for her work benefiting nature and humanity.

Joro Walker of Western Resource Advocates won first prize and $8,000 from the Yves Rocher Foundation for her work to protect ecosystems of southern Utah's canyon country. She also has worked to save Great Salt Lake wetlands and protect Navajo Point Mesa overlooking Glen Canyon.

Second- and third-place winners are Carol Childress of Massachusetts and Bonnie Hoag of New York.

The awards program also honors women in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Russia and Sweden.
