Verda Law Nelson Hatch Spackman 1910 ~ 2006 On April 7, 2006, after 96 years of life lived to its fullest, Verda returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father. For more than nine and a half decades she made this world a better place by loving, caring and serving others. We will all miss her dearly! Her giving nature, beautiful smile, and always positive attitude will be a lasting legacy to all who knew and loved her. She was born January 16, 1910, in Delta, Utah to wonderful parents Bessie Bickley and Robert J. Law. She was the sixth of her tight-knit family's 10 children. In 1926, Verda married Farr S. Nelson in the Salt Lake Temple, but later divorced. Verda raised their two young daughters - Yvonne (Bonnie) and Jerene (Jan) - supporting them by working in her parents' store, the R. J. Law Company. At the store she became well-known for her integrity and for the special service she always gave the customers. Verda was a very creative and artistic woman, who enjoyed designing and decorating the store's display windows. She was also an excellent seamstress, and made darling dresses for her daughters for every holiday and special occasion. Verda loved Delta and made many lifelong friends while living there. Later in life she organized an annual "Delta Heart Day," where every February, women from Delta, living in the Salt Lake area, met to enjoy lunch and to reminisce about life in their home town. In 1946 Verda married O. Horace Hatch. They lived in Bountiful, where they raised their daughter, Maretta. The Hatches enjoyed camping and fishing with their daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. After retirement, the Hatches frequently went to bazaars and swap meets to sell Verda's creative sewing crafts and Horace's beautiful jewelry. Verda also made many items for charity, including dozens of beautiful blankets for the young patients of Primary Children's Hospital. Verda and Horace celebrated their 50th anniversary with loved ones and friends before he passed away. In July 2000, Verda married Lloyd T. Spackman, who survives her. They enjoyed many pleasant hours in their 'Golden Years' socializing and dancing at the Golden Years Centers. They loved traveling with friends on tours and cruises. The past two years they were blessed to be members of the Bountiful House Branch, where they attended LDS Church meetings and looked forward to special sessions at the Bountiful Temple. Verda is survived by daughters Bonnie (Ward) Middleton of Centerville; Jan Curtis of St. George; and Maretta Wrigley of Salt Lake City. She was so proud of her nine grandchildren, Michael W. Middleton, Teresa Webster, Fred Curtis, Sheila Murphy, Paul Curtis, Aleisa Hallberg, Bryan Wrigley, David Wrigley, and Steven Wrigley. Verda was "GG" to 21 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; they were the joy of her life. Also surviving are sisters, Nina Reeve and Elcee Law, and many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 14, 2006, from 11:30 - 12:30 a.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Graveside services and interment will be at the Salem City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. The family expresses deep gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Scott Southworth; Erin and Marie of Vista Care, and to the many others who cared for Mom with patience, kindness and love. We love you Mom! Thank you for teaching us to appreciate all the beauties of God's wonderful world and for being an inspiring example of hard work, dependability, honesty, and enduring to the end. We will always remember your beautiful smile; you're happy, positive attitude; and the way you loved life and people - treasuring each day and every friend as a precious gift. Your spirit and example will be with us always. We are so grateful that you are once again smiling, laughing, and dancing, and happy to know that you've been reunited with loved ones who anxiously awaited your return. We know you will be watching over us, and we will cherish our memories of you, until we are all together again!
