Elaine Penfold May 1917 ~ 2006 Elaine Penfold May passed away after a short battle with cancer April 8, 2006. She was 88 years old. Elaine was born December 31, 1917 in Darby, Idaho to Virgil Penfold and Georgia Hillman. She graduated from Teton High School in Driggs, ID and then attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. She married James LeRoy May September 18, 1938 in Driggs. They moved their family to California in 1941 upon finding employment in the aircraft industry. Elaine worked off and on in the garment industry and also as a bookkeeper in several small businesses. She kept busy sewing for her girls and keeping up a beautiful yard and home for her family. The home that she and Jim built from the ground up. After retirement in 1980, they did some extensive traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Alaska and eventually toured New Zealand and Europe. She was active in the LDS Church serving in the Mesa AZ Temple for 10 years. She enjoyed square dancing, water skiing and was an avid genealogist, and helped those in her ward and stake. She was an example for good to all who came in contact with her. She was also active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, starting a camp at the Valley Vu Condos when she moved there in 2001. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Sherelle (Roger) Simister of New Harmony and Virginia (Ginni and Bill) Lloyd of West Valley City; sister, Carol Sorensen of Riverton; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great great-granddaughters. Preceded in death by her loving husband; parents; three sisters, Lois, Naida and Maurine; and brother, Don. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at the Harman LDS Ward, 4634 West Harman Drive (3700 South). The family will receive friends at a viewing Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment, Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Driggs City Cemetery.
