Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff received the Service to Journalism Award from the University of Utah's communications department on Wednesday.
"He's advocated the free flow of information and open government and has also been a major player on the national scene in teaming up with other states to try to create shield laws for journalists," said Craig Denton, U. professor of communications.
Deseret Morning News managing editor Richard Hall also won top honors at the event. He received the Quintus C. Wilson Alumni Achievement Award along with Brenda Hancock, former director of human resources for Salt Lake City, and Michael Mischler, executive vice president of marketing for Paramount Television.
