GOLF: The men's golf team finished the final round of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic with an eight-over 288, the team's best round of the tournament. The Utes finished 19th overall with a 43-over 883.

MWC HONORS: BYU senior first baseman Jeff Hiestand and freshman right hander Jordan Muir were named Monday as Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Hiestand, a Chino, Calif., native, hit .647 (11-for-17) last week, helping the Cougars to a 3-1 record, including a 2-1 record vs. conference foe UNLV.

Muir, from Las Vegas, Nev., came on in relief in two games for BYU last week, tallying the win in both games.

Utah State

ACADEMICS: Fifteen Utah State student-athletes were on the list of winter academic all-Western Athletic Conference selections that were announced by the league office: women's basketball: Jessica Freeman, Brittany Hagen, Ali Marchant, Taylor Richards, Anne Marie Torp, Brittany Tressler and Jenny Gross; men's basketball Chris Huber and Cass Matheus; gymnastics Liesel Kohler, Rachel Mandy, Alex Martin, Katie Omann, Jessica Parenti and Ana Rickard. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.

GOLF: The men's golf team finished in 18th place out of 20 teams with a team score of 882 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic held at the Talking Stick's North Course on Monday. The Aggies finished the tournament with a final-round team score of 292, after shooting 590 as a team after the first two rounds.

MEN'S TENNIS: The men's tennis team will travel to Ogden to take on the Weber State Wildcats today at 1:30 p.m. The Aggies are now 8-8 this spring season.

Johnannes Zelle continues to lead the Aggies with a 7-8 record at the No. 1 spot in singles. In doubles, the Aggies are led by Joao Pinho and Johannes Zelle with a 8-2 record for this spring season.

TRACK & FIELD: Utah State's track teams travel to Provo on Saturday for the 2006 BYU Y Invitational. The meet begins at 11 a.m. at BYU's Clarence Robison Track. The Aggies host the Mark Faldmo Track and Field Invitational on April 22 at the Ralph Maughn Stadium in Logan..

ATHLETICS: Utah Valley State will hold its annual Athletic Awards and Hall of Fame banquet today in the David O. McKay Center. Two former Wolverine athletes, cross country runner Devra Vierkant and baseball player Mitch Jones, will be inducted into the UVSC Athletic Hall of Fame. A reception in their honor will be held at 6 p.m. in the northwest foyer of the McKay Center where the Hall of Fame plaques are displayed. The banquet, which will feature the inductions, along with athletic awards for this year's outstanding UVSC athletes, will follow at 7 p.m.

Southern Utah

TRACK & FIELD: Southern Utah's men's and women's track and field teams travel to Southern California to compete in three meets this week. Five Thunderbird athletes, including juniors B.J. Taylor and Jillian Parry, and freshmen Wade Nielson, Tiffany Lindstrom and Shalane Titmus, will compete at the Azusa Pacific-hosted California Invitational Decathlon and Heptathlon Wednesday and Thursday. Meanwhile, 10 other athletes will represent Southern Utah at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays Friday-Sunday in Walnut. In addition, both squads will compete at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Friday in Pomona.

GOLF: SUU shot the second-lowest round of the tournament Tuesday to move up six spots and finish fifth at Wyoming's Cowboy Classic, held at the 7,133-yard, par 70 Talking Stick Golf Club.

Freshmen Matt McArthur and Tim Hawkins led the way for the Thunderbirds in the final round, as each shot 67, tying for the second-lowest rounds of the day.
