A 67-year-old Salt Lake City man was killed when his vehicle crossed the median and slammed into an oncoming car Tuesday near the University of Utah.

University Police Sgt. Earl McKeen said the man was driving west on Wasatch Drive, exiting the university onto Foothill Boulevard, about 4:30 p.m. when his car struck an eastbound car head-on.

The man, whose identity was not released, received multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, McKeen said. The other driver was injured but is expected to recover fully.

The posted speed limit is 30 mph, but it is unknown how fast the man was traveling or whether any impairment was involved.

McKeen said it was a busy time on the roads at the university and called the accident a "strange circumstance."
