TAYLORSVILLE — A teen suffered only minor injuries after being speared by a javelin at a track and field event at Taylorsville High School Tuesday afternoon.
For unknown reasons, the 15-year-old girl entered the field just as the javelin throw was taking place and ran into its path, said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Mike Ricketts. The javelin went into the girl's thigh and the point came out the other side, hit the ground and popped back out of her leg.
There was very little bleeding, and Ricketts said the javelin missed any vital vessels. The girl's parents drove her to the emergency room to be checked out and she is expected to be OK.
