Gene Robert Crum 1922 ~ 2006 Gene Robert Crum, our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, friend, passed away Friday, April 7, 2006, surrounded by family and friends. Gene was born in Provo, Utah on November 25, 1922 to Rena Rasmussen Crum and George Oliver Crum. He graduated from Farrer Junior High and Provo High School, where he played the clarinet in the marching band. He later graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree in accounting. During World War II, Gene served in the US Army. He saw action in both the European and Pacific theaters, loading ships for the Normandy invasion and disposing of enemy bombs after the armistice in Europe and then in Japan. Gene married his beautiful Barbara (Barbara D Brown) on January 31, 1947 in Provo, Utah. After graduating from BYU, Gene began a 37-year career with Utah Construction and Mining Company, later re-named Utah International, Inc. He worked for 23 years in the corporate offices in San Francisco, California as Director of Accounting/Assistant Comptroller. Gene was a kind, caring, and generous individual and his life was one of service and devotion to his family and his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He especially loved to be around babies and small children and had a special bond with them. His family - including grandchildren and great-grand children - remember dozens of family trips and vacations provided by "Grandpa Gene". Our fondest memories are of over 20 years of house boating on Lake Powell, where grandpa loved to catch "stripers". When his beloved Barbara became ill with viral encephalitis, he personally cared for her for 10 years until her death in 2003. Our father and grandfather is part of who we are, of how we see the world, of how we live and give. These are priceless gifts which are ours forever. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, John Gilbert Crum, George Wilbur (Sheila) Crum, Viola Crum (Everett) VanWagenen, and his wife of 56 years, Barbara D Brown Crum. He is survived by his three children, Dr. Pamela Jean (Glen) Gardner, Robert Larry Crum, and Sandra Lee (Craig) Russell. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Adrienne Alicia (Darrin) Sumsion, Brian Lavelle (Rebecca) Gardner, Rachele Marie (Bill) Oram, Tiana Ann (Ryan) Hilton, Brandon Craig (Annie) Russell, Kevin (Brianne) Droege, and 14 great-grandchil dren. His family will miss him dearly. Funeral services will be held at the River 6th Ward, 7350 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah on Friday, April 14, at 1:15 p.m. Friends and family may call at the church between 12:30 and 1:10 p.m. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Ut.
