Jay Hansen 1919 ~ 2006 ROOSEVELT- Jay Morten Hansen, age 87, died April 10, 2006, in Roosevelt. Born May 28, 1919, in Brigham City to Susannah Rosetta Mortensen and Joseph H. Hansen. He was the youngest of five children. Graduated from Box Elder High School and Weber State College. Worked for the Social Security Administration from 1939 until his retirement in 1973. Was a veteran of World War II and Korea. Married Jean Wardle Litster on June 4, 1962, in Salt Lake City. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived a rich and fulfilling life until Jean's death in 1974. After his wife's death, he spent a year in Guatemala with the Ayuda Organization at Quich?. He has been very active in the community since his retirement to Roosevelt. He was a member of the Borderline Amateur Radio Club, Duchesne County Search and Rescue, and held numerous church positions. He was the membership clerk for the 8th Ward at the time of his death. Survived by his daughters, Dr. Margaret "Peggy" Newman, Galveston, TX; Sharon "Shan" (George) Kerns, Salt Lake City; and foster-daughter Sixta (Greg) Sass, Levittown, PA; grandchildren, Neal Newman, Dayna, Jeff and Brady Kerns; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, all four siblings, Mark "Mick", Leora, Erwin "Erv", and Dorothy. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2006, at the Roosevelt West Stake Center, 150 South Skyline Drive. Viewing will be Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary, 457 East 300 North, and from 10-10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with Military Honors by American Legion Post 64.
