LaVell Major 5/20/1919 ~ 4/6/2006 LaVell Major, our loving mother, grandmother, sister passed away April 6, 2006 in a Care Center in Southern California. She was born May 20, 1919 in Syracuse, UT to Edwin and Rildah Williams. Preceding her in death is her husband Frank and parents. LaVell is survived by her five children: Jolene Veres (Ron), Kent Major (Angie), Jane Rogers (Mark), Rick Major (Joyce); Dave Major (Piper); along with 12 grandchildren, one great-grand child, sister Elaine Serne and brother Ross Williams (Blanche). LaVell grew up on a farm in Layton, UT. She graduated from Davis High and shortly after met the love of her life Frank Major. Frank and LaVell were married in Salt Lake City on July 26, 1939. Their first child arrived in 1942. In 1943 Frank left to serve in World War II. LaVell and her daughter moved to her parents home until Frank returned from war, November 1945. LaVell's comment to this difficult time was: "You just do what you have to, that's all!" They moved to Logan, UT from 1946 to 1949 until Frank graduated from Utah State University. In 1949 they moved to Burley, ID where Frank began his first teaching position. They enjoyed living in Burley. They moved to Torrance, CA in 1954 where they raised their family and lived for 23 years. Franks retirement took them back to Utah in 1977 when they moved to Kanab. They loved the little town and the neighbors were wonderful to them. They spent their summer at the one spot that brought them much joy, their cabin in Long Valley, UT. LaVell lived her life demanding little attention of herself, but always there for others. She was spunky and fun, had a great sense of humor, and a no nonsense approach to life. She enjoyed needlepoint, crochet and making quilts for her family. Everything she cooked or baked was delicious; everything she touched sparkled and shined. She was a very classy, beautiful lady inside and out. We know she is now at peace and happy in the arms of her beloved husband Frank. We will always have you in our hearts Mom, rest in peace. Funeral Services will be held at Mosdell Mortuary, 676 S Hwy 89A, Kanab, UT 84741, (435) 644-2214, on April 20th at 2:00 p.m. The family will greet the public from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Kanab Cemetery.
