OREM — For most Christians, Easter Sunday is a day of celebration, worship and thanksgiving for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
For one area minister, the term "Easter Sunday" has been changed to "Resurrection Sunday," reflecting what he sees is the real purpose
Two scriptures from the New Testament have had a profound effect on Pastor Rick Roberson of the Victory Baptist Church. They have changed how he teaches and gives his sermons.
"I grew up with the idea of Easter being associated as a religious holiday — when Jesus rose from the dead," Pastor Roberson said. "Easter is one thing, and the resurrection is another."
He takes his feelings on Easter from Acts 12:4 in the King James version of the Bible, which refers to King Herod, a pagan, sending the apostle Peter to prison.
"The word Easter is in the Bible, but is not as we know it," Pastor Roberson said.
Pastor Roberson said Easter was a pagan celebration for the beginning of spring and was around before the Christian era. Roberson believes the resurrection is what true Christians should be celebrating and not Easter.
He believes true Christians should celebrate Resurrection Sunday not just one day but every day of the year.
