After less than a year on the job, Kim Langton is stepping down as chief executive officer of Centro de La Familia de Utah.

Langton submitted his resignation, saying he wanted to return to public school administration. The resignation was effective immediately.

Before taking the post at the Latino social and educational service agency last July, Langton had been a superintendent of the Kuspuk School District in Aniak, Alaska. Centro spokeswoman Rebecca Chavez-Houck said Langton was in Alaska this week.

Board President Daniel Flores said the agency's board hopes to fill the vacancy as soon as possible. Chavez-Houck will serve as interim CEO.

"We will miss Dr. Langton's enthusiasm for the work of the agency and his concern for the welfare of our clients," Flores said. "We wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors."
