South Jordan is seeking interested residents to participate on its new Public Arts and Cultural Development Board.

The board was established to foster an environment where the arts can thrive and become an integral part of the infrastructure of South Jordan and create a visual and aesthetic environment that incorporates art into the lives of residents.

The 16-member board will include members of the community who are interested in dance, folk arts, literature, media arts, music, theater, visual arts, architectural design, landscape architecture and/or are members from the community at large who love all forms of arts.

All members of the Public Arts and Community Development Board will be appointed for two-year terms. Board members will be required to attend all regular meetings which are anticipated to be held once a month and on some special occasions.

Goals for the board include advising the City Council on the aesthetic quality of planned public developments to enhance the urban design quality in South Jordan and on matters of cultural planning and development within the community; to create, recommend and implement art policies for the city; to coordinate and administer defined art functions; to educate the public, promote the arts and increase public awareness of the benefits and contributions of the arts to creating a well-rounded community; and to operate in the public interest serving the community as a whole and serving no special interest.
