LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man was charged with murder Friday in the death of his two children who were found in a vehicle set afire in a downtown alley.
The charges against Dae Kwon Yun include special circumstances — multiple victims and murder committed during an arson — that allow a possible death sentence. Prosecutors have not determined whether to seek the death penalty.
Police said Yun, who had recently separated from his wife, placed the children inside the sport utility vehicle and set it on fire April 2. Ashley, 11, and Alexander, 10, were killed.
Police said the father also was inside the SUV when the fire started. Yun, 54, remains hospitalized with severe burns on his face, hands and legs.
District attorney's spokesman Jane Robison said Yun did not have legal counsel yet because of his hospitalization. No arraignment date was set.
