Scenic drive
ARIZONA HIGHWAYS. The Desert to Tall Pines Scenic Road is a lonely section of highway in the middle of Tonto National Forest that runs through one of the most remote and unspoiled area's of the state. You begin north and west of Globe, an old mining town. Take Highway 88 west from Globe and turn north onto Highway 288, a term used loosely because the road turns to gravel. But the Arizona tourism office assures visitors that the views are worth it. You'll see Theodore Roosevelt Lake as well as the Sierra Ancha Wilderness and the Salmone Wilderness. You'll pass through the town of Young, which has one gas station and two restaurants. For information about this and other scenic drives in Arizona, go to www.ArizonaScenicRoads.com.
