At least four people have been arrested in connection with a rash of police car burglaries.

For the past 30 to 45 days, a group of people have been breaking into police cars, mainly in West Jordan and Kearns, and taking weapons, bulletproof vests, IDs and other equipment.

"They were taking whatever they could get their hands on," said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Mazuran.

More than a dozen police cars were burglarized. The majority of incidents happened at night while the patrol cars were parked at officers' homes.

An investigation led detectives to a list of suspects, and two search warrants were served, resulting in several arrests and the recovery of a good portion of the stolen items.

Investigators believed the people stealing the police items were gang-affiliated and using those items for themselves, to sell or to exchange for drugs.
