Obituary: Norma Janice Jasper Westphal

Norma Janice Jasper Westphal "We Love You Mom" On April 12, 2006, a beautiful spring morning, our precious mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed through the veil and was reunited with her sweetheart Dwain. Mom was born September 13, 1932 in Payson, Utah, the third child of Norma Susan Davis and James Percy Jasper. Janice was raised and educated in Payson along with her ten brothers and sisters. She cherished her humble childhood and wonderful adventures with her siblings. Mom was a beautiful, strawberry blonde, small in stature, but, could definitely express herself. She captured the eye and heart of Jack Dwain Westphal. They married August 26, 1950, in Evanston, Wyoming. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Through out their marriage they lived and raised their family in the Orem area. Together they owned and operated several local businesses, always working hard as a team. After Dwain's retirement there were always home improvement projects of friends and family that kept them working. They were confronted with many physical challenges and dealt with each of them. Dwain was legally blind and Janice was his eyes, it was truly amazing to see the beautiful work they completed. They were married 51 years when Dad preceded her in death March 2, 2002. Mom's love of her life was Dwain, they were inseparable. During Janice's life she was actively involved in several clubs she truly enjoyed. She golfed and bowled for many years with many of her dear friends. Her and Dad even took up square dancing and decked themselves out in its fine attire. Now if you joined her at a BYU football game, whether it was at home or at the Y, were your ears ever the same? You would always find them at what every activity their children or grandchildren were participating in. They loved cheering us on! They supported and motivated each of us. Visiting friends and family seemed to be a daily event! Her home was well kept, comfortable, and always inviting. Mom so enjoyed having her family over for Sunday dinner. But, the most treasured moments with our family were those spent camping and fishing at Strawberry Bay. Mom and Dad truly knew how to charm those fish and in doing so, they gave our family a lifetime of great adventures and memories to forever share. Janice is survived by her three sons, Rickey Dwain (Lynda) of West Jordan; Graig Lee, Kevin J. (Kathy); and her beautiful daughter, Michelle (Craig) Mills, all of South Jordan. Her grandchildren which were her pride and joy, Zackory, Justin, Annabelle, Cheree, J.D., Brock, Gentri, Brayli, Abbi, Brecken, Jenny, Michelle, Brian, Chad, and Sean. At the time of her passing she had 13 great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, James Elvin, Dorothy, Chad, Jerry, Ronald, Reverl, Jack, Mary and Boyd. Her two brothers in law, Fred and Gary Westphal. She was preceded in death by her husband Dwain, her parents, her sister, Joyce, and two grandchildren, Bryan Dwain Westphal and Colby Judd Mills. A celebration of Mom's life will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the River Ridge 6th Ward (10190 South 1000 West) at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held Monday, April 17, 2006 from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S.) and at the ward chapel at 9:30 am prior to services.
