Obituary: Janice Walker Smith

Janice Walker Smith 1929 ~ 2006 On the beautiful Spring morning of April 12, 2006, our cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Janice Walker Smith, returned to her Heavenly Father leaving behind a legacy of love. She showed great courage and dignity while enduring the pain of multiple myeloma over the past four years. Janice was born December 22, 1929 in Murray, Utah to Frank Earl and Lucy Catherine Neff Walker. She attended Granite High School where she met and married her sweetheart, Glen S. Smith on September 15, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 8, 1958. Blessed with seven beloved children: Craig (Vickie) Smith, Deborah (Douglas) Poole, Sandra (Thomas) Packer, Gregory (Susan) Smith, Brett (Tamara) Smith, Mark (Marilyn) Smith and Nanette (Wayne) Sanders. Her loving legacy is their 33 grandchildren (two of which are currently serving LDS missions), and 11 great-grandchildren. Her life was an example of service to all who knew her. She exemplified Christ-like love by continually giving of her time and tender care. She found joy in being surrounded by her family and precious grandchildren. She loved the beautiful Bear Lake valley and selflessly provided a place for her family to gather and create lasting memories. Her loving kindness has left an impression on the lives of all those who have known her. She is survived by her husband and their children, two brothers, Franklin Earl Walker, F.M. (Bud) Walker, two sisters, Elaine (Gary) Moulton, Jean (Kenneth) Chambers, sisters-in-law, Barbara (Frank) Walker, and Charlene Walker. Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Brian N. Walker, sister-in-law, Jean Lund Walker, and grandson, Jonathan Poole. A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2006 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah, and from 10:45 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service on Monday. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Union Fort 6th Ward, 6710 South 1300 East, Midvale, Utah. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
