CALDWELL, Idaho — The Utah Valley State softball team (13-27) split with Albertson College on Sunday, losing the first game, 7-5, and winning the second, 8-2.
In the second game, Heidi Boyer picked up the win by allowing only two hits and striking out six batters. The two offensive stars on the day were Chris Jimenez and Cari Hamilton. Jimenez went 4 for 8 while Hamilton was 5 for 7.
Albertson took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Wolverines countered with two runs in the third to take the lead for good. The Wolverines then scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and sixth innings, and two in the seventh to seal the win.
Hamilton led the way with three hits while Boyer, Rachel Hartgrove, Laurin Eppich and Sara Roskelley all had two hits.
In the first game, the Wolverines fell behind 7-3 after the third inning. They did add two runs in the top of the seventh.
Both teams had eight hits and two errors in the contest.
Utah Valley is back in action on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when it plays a doubleheader at SUU.
