Four Utah students are headed to the Lockheed Martin MATHCOUNTS National Competition in Arlington, Va., next month.

Ken Tharp, Kazi Ahmed and Delian Asparouhov of West High in Salt Lake City and Trevor Brunnenmeyer of Churchill Junior High in Granite District, along with coach Robert McGee of Midvale Middle School, are among 228 vying for the national championship, which comes with an $8,000 scholarship, a trip to U.S. Space Camp, a notebook computer and other prizes.

The contest consists of written problems and a Countdown Round, where students go head-to-head on mathematical expertise.
