Mayor Rocky Anderson should be thanked for his leadership on environmental issues. His frequent absence is a small price to pay for the positive worldwide recognition Salt Lake City gets from his efforts.

It is too bad that he also does not display the same leadership against the consumption of alcohol, which is a plague equal to — if not greater — than the pollution of the environment. Salt Lake City, with its sensible laws, could provide him with a natural platform for such a cause. Instead, he wants to increase the consumption of alcohol by increasing the number of bars in downtown Salt Lake City.
