ST. GEORGE — A man was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot in a confrontation with a neighbor.

Police said the 20-year-old shooting victim was wielding a machete when he knocked on the door of a home at 55 E. 600 South Sunday night. The man who answered asked about the machete, and the other man told him he wanted to hurt somebody.

Sgt. Craig Harding said the resident in the home then pulled a gun out of his waistband, punched the other man and the gun discharged, striking the victim in the abdomen.

Officers said they followed a trail of blood to a home and found the man lying on his bed. He was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center where he was in surgery on Monday.
