An out of control semitrailer truck in Weber Canyon on I-84 forced two Utah Highway Patrol troopers to dive out of the way for safety.

One trooper jumped over a bridge and then grabbed onto the railing, hanging on with a 40-foot drop below him.

The incident began about 3 a.m. Tuesday. A bridge with black ice contributed to four separate crashes involving seven cars and two semi trucks, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Jeff Nigbur.

While two troopers were investigating those accidents, another semi came down the hill and also lost control near the bridge.

Both troopers had to jump out of the way as the truck hit one of the patrol cars. Both received minor bumps and bruises. No one was seriously injured in any of the crashes.

One lane was opened in the canyon about a half-hour later. The other stayed close for about two hours.
