PROVO — Brigham Young University Museum of Art is taking advantage of new technologies.
The museum recently launched its first podcast — an audio tour of the current exhibition, "Nostalgia and Technology: Embracing the New Through Art and Design," said Chris Wilson, museum marketing and communications manager.
The word "podcast" comes from the terms "broadcast" and "iPod."
Podcasting is a relatively new method for distributing audio files over the Internet, Wilson said.
The museum will produce a variety of free podcasts, from formal audio tours to lectures, to informal gallery strolls with curators and artists. These podcasts are available as free MP3 files that can be downloaded from the museum's Web site and can be played on any commercially available MP3 player.
To get the podcasts either subscribe to the museum's podcast feed and receive new episodes automatically or bring an MP3 player to the museum and download a podcast at the front desk.
