The other day I attended a panel discussion on immigration. The first thing asked was "What is your legal status?" — as if my opinion or voice doesn't matter unless I'm a citizen. I am a citizen. I have been in this territory for 400 years on the Spanish side and several thousand years on the Native American side. I attended the marches and rallies not to support any political argument but rather to support peace, unity and dignity for humankind. Others, however, were calling me names and telling us to "keep marching back to Mexico."

Still, I was very proud to see our young people — including Boy Scouts — marching for the dignity of the human race. I hope the Boy Scouts continue to participate. Isn't the intention to help young boys grow into men of strong character?
