The Utah Legislature will travel to the Uintah Basin in August, members of the Legislative Management Committee decided Wednesday.
The committee set the annual trip to a site off Capitol Hill for Aug. 7 and 8 and also requested that next year legislative leaders from both parties serving on the committee travel to Davis and Salt Lake counties.
"You'll probably be quite surprised by what's happening," Assistant Senate Majority Whip Beverly Evans, R-Altamont, told committee members. She said the trip to her district would include visits to the area's oil fields.
A tentative schedule for the trip has lawmakers heading to either Duchesne or Roosevelt before moving on to other sites throughout Duchesne County and ending the day with a town meeting and dinner in Vernal. The second day would focus on Uintah County.
