Dan McIntyre (Readers' Forum, April 2) distorts the issue. Advocates of same-sex marriage are talking about marriage for humans, not dogs. And we are certainly not advocating incest. Beyond true counterfeit marriage, for what possible reason should the state deny any consenting adult pair the right to legalize their union and commitment? Please do not use the tired argument about traditional values — we have the historical record of millennia to illustrate how values have been misused — nor the silly line "defense of marriage" when we are talking about couples waiting to embrace the institution.
