I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Here is a sentence from Wednesday's paper (a story about Massachusetts requiring health care for all): "The measure does not call for new taxes but would require businesses that do not offer insurance to pay a $295 annual fee per employee."
Hah! Who's buying that kind of doublespeak? If it walks like a tax and sounds like a tax, it's a tax. Since legislators never want to be seen as raising taxes, they label new financial burdens as fees. Does this ring a $10 bell for auto owners in Salt Lake County?
