PROVO — A Provo man is in police custody after apparently threatening his family with a butcher knife.
Family members told police Tuesday night that the 24-year-old man was upset about having to participate in a drug-treatment program, and that if they bothered him, he would kill them, according to a police report filed by Provo police in 4th District Court.
The family fled the house and called police, who found the man at the stop of the stairs, coming toward officers while brandishing the 7-inch knife.
He was taken into custody after being struck with a Tazer weapon, later telling police he didn't want to hurt anyone but had been aggressive in an effort to get officers to kill him, as a suicide-by-cop, according to the police report.
He was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault on $1,500 cash or bond bail.
