The Utah Public Service Commission on Friday approved a decrease in Questar Gas rates amounting to $38.6 million.

The Salt Lake-based utility asked for the change because of recent decreases in the price of natural gas. The Utah Division of Public Utilities and the Utah Committee of Consumer Services supported the proposed decrease. The division calculated that the typical residential customer's annual bill would fall $43.83, or 3.7 percent.

The new rates will be reflected in Questar's next billing period.
