Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies believe they have identified the victim in a fatal auto-pedestrian accident Thursday night but need the public's help in finding the man's relatives.

A 42-year-old man was hit and killed while crossing busy 700 East near 4000 South about 9 p.m.

The man was carrying an identification card from Illinois, said sheriff's Sgt. Paul Jaroscak. The card identified him as Kenneth J. Bochantyn. Investigators believe it is the man's name because he matched the picture on the ID.

But the address on the card was for the Social Security office in Chicago, said sheriff's deputy Mike Schoenfeld.

All efforts to find a relative or friend of the man, believed to be a transient, failed, Jaroscak said.
