Salt Lake City police said they will be prepared to handle tens of thousands of people if that many should show up during this weekend's competing rallies over immigration legislation.
Utah's Latino community leaders have planned a "Dignity March" for Sunday and a "Unity Rally" on Monday.
Meanwhile, anti-illegal immigration activists, including the Minutemen, are planning their own "Pro-America" marches on Sunday.
The rallies are expected to take place between noon and 5 p.m. at the Salt Lake City-County building with subsequent marches to the State Capitol on Sunday, said Salt Lake City police detective Robin Snyder.
Snyder said those not involved with the rallies may want to avoid State Street in the downtown area Sunday to avoid traffic problems.
