OREM — Home field advantage was worth at least one goal and three points in the region table for the Mountain View boys soccer team on Friday.

The Bruins ran up against a Pleasant Grove team that didn't make things easy and suffered through some sloppy play of its own, but still came away with a 1-0 victory to stay on top of Region 4.

Mike Moreno scored his fifth goal of the season in the 17th minute and the Bruins recorded their fifth shutout of the season in the win.

"It wasn't our best effort, but we're happy with it," said Mountain View coach Mike Graham. "We started off and kind of had our way with things. After that we just got a little bit out of our rhythm. We should've had a lot bigger lead much earlier, but we got a little complacent with that."

In the 11th minute, Pleasant Grove almost took the early lead when Ben Gerun rolled a shot past the goalkeeper from 20 yards out, but the ball bounced off the left post and was cleared out of play before anyone came up for a rebound. The near-miss was the closest the Vikings came to scoring all afternoon.

The Bruins had a pair of good chances to extend the lead in the second half, but Vikings' goalkeeper Richard Crist kept his team in the game with some big saves.

David Salazar beat his marker on a breakaway and had a clean shot on goal in the 60th minute, but Crist made a diving save to keep the ball out.

In the 63rd minute Mountain View worked the ball to Matt Williams for a shot from the left side of the goal, but Crist was in good position to knock the ball down.

Mike Chesler recorded the clean sheet for the Bruins, who have only allowed three goals this season.
