Layton police continued to investigate the beating death of a man whose body was found in a fast food restaurant parking lot. Detectives admitted Wednesday they had more questions than answers.

Michael K. Roberts, 46, was found early Tuesday morning in the parking lot of a Crown Burger restaurant at 1860 N. Main St., said Layton Assistant Police Chief Craig Gibson. Investigators said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Police released a jail booking photograph of Roberts, but refused to release any other information about him. Court records show that Roberts had an encounter with police last year for a misdemeanor offense and eventually served 17 days in jail.

His body was found about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday by a man walking home from a nearby Denny's restaurant, police said. The deceased was wearing a gray ball cap, maroon shirt, Levi jeans, white shoes and carrying a small black duffel bag, Gibson said in the statement. Detectives were still trying to figure out if Roberts was killed in the parking lot, or if his body was dumped there.
