Roland Kayser writes regarding global warming: "I am not willing to risk the possibility that George Will (April 2) is right and all of the scientists are wrong."
Recently Dr. Eric Pianka, a renowned ecologist, gave a speech to the Texas Academy of Science. He asserted that humans are ruining the Earth and that "quick steps must be taken to restore the planet before it's too late," according to a report by Forrest M. Mims, who was present.
He then proposed that to save the planet human populations need to be reduced by 90 percent. He said that AIDS was not an efficient killer, being too slow, and that his favored candidate to do the job was airborne Ebola virus, which kills swiftly and therefore fails to spread beyond its hotspots. The audience stood and gave him enthusiastic and prolonged applause.
Sorry, Mr. Kayser. I prefer George Will's approach.
