Police conducted a manhunt Saturday evening, looking for a convicted sex offender with known gang ties who walked away from a West Valley halfway house.
Authorities at the Freemont Community Correctional Center, 2588 W. 2365 South, say 28-year-old Kerby Vuong walked out of the minimum-security facility without permission and was reported unaccounted for just before 7 p.m.
Correctional supervisor Craig Greenberg said Vuong was serving a sentence for a third-degree felony conviction of attempted sexual abuse of a child. At the time, Vuong was allowed release from the halfway house for his job.
Police canvassed the area using search dogs to track Vuong. According to police advisories, Vuong was said to have put on multiple layers of clothing in an effort to change what he was wearing on the fly to thwart search efforts.
