PROVO — The BYU rugby team started the playoffs slowly against Chico State but didn't take long in finding its legs and romping to a 51-7 victory.

The Cougars trailed 7-3 in the early going but recovered and racked up 48 unanswered points to run away with the win.

With the victory, the Cougars clinched the Pacific Coast Rugby Football Union's No. 2 seed for the National Round of 16.

The Cougars (10-0) will play a yet-to-be-determined opponent on April 21 at noon at Cal-Berkeley.

Last year, the Cougars advanced to the tournament's final four teams before suffering a tough loss against in-state rival Utah in the national semifinals.

It was the Cougars' first postseason appearance in 20 years after sitting out because the national championship game was played on a Sunday during that time.

In compiling an undefeated record this season, the Cougars have averaged nearly 57 points per game, and the team's closest margin of victory was a 20-point win at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the season opener.
