GIRDLETREE, Md. (AP) — A couple and two of their grandchildren were found dead in a home on Virginia's Eastern Shore, and a relative surrendered Saturday after a manhunt and car chase, authorities said.
Ronald Shrieves, 32, was arrested near Girdletree after officers chased him in a pickup truck that belonged to one of the victims, said Worcester County Sheriff Chuck Martin. Maryland authorities were holding him on traffic charges.
"A lot of guns pointing, but no injuries," was how Martin described Shrieves' surrender. "He was not armed at the time."
It was unclear how he was related to the victims, Martin said.
Authorities are investigating the killings of Harry L. Shrieves Sr., 68, and his wife, Edna, 58, along with two of their grandchildren, 14-year-old grandson Deonte and 4-year-old granddaughter DeNyia. Their bodies were found Friday, but it was unclear how they died.
The children's mother discovered the bodies Friday night at the home when she went to pick up the children, investigators said.
