John Norick Long 1959 ~ 2006 John Norick Long was taken suddenly early Tuesday morning, July 25, 2006, in a tragic car accident. Norick was born March 21st, 1959 in Los Angeles, California to Kay Darwin and Corrine Kartchner Long. He served an LDS mission in upstate New York, where he met his sweetheart, Kay Nilson. They were married on October 16, 1982 for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Norick was an example of quiet dedication and service. He was a loving father to five children: Stuart (21) returning from the East Lansing, Michigan mission, Alex (19) currently serving in the Alaska, Anchorage mission, Emily (17), Scott (13), and Jackson (9). He enjoyed watching his kids participate in many athletic events. He also loved fishing with his family in Alaska, where he built a fishing lodge (Salmon Run) with his father and brother. He will be remembered for his work ethic, his perfectionist attention to detail, and his obsessive punctuality. Norick loved to work with his hands and owned and operated his own construction and remodeling company, Norwood. He was a true craftsman and woodworker. His friends and family knew they could call him anytime they needed help with a project. He came early, stayed late, and always had the right tools for the job. He was a man of impeccable integrity - there was no pretense with Norick. What you saw was what you got. We will miss his wry sense of humor and his deadpan delivery. "We love you, Fasha, and we know we will see you again." In addition to his wife, children, and parents, Norick is survived by his siblings, Tracey (David) Braithwaite, Jared Long, and Kelley Long and his 100 year-old grandmother, Cora Merrill. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 29th at 12:00 noon at the Olympus 1st Ward, 4100 So. Camille Street (2485 E), Holladay UT. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the J. Norick Long Children's Fund at any Zion's Bank location. Funeral Directors, Russon Brothrers, SLC. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com
