MEMPHIS — Memphis scored six runs in the second inning and never looked back, as the Redbirds routed the Salt Lake Bees 9-4 on Thursday night.
Salt Lake starter Steven Shell (3-6) lasted just 1 1/3 inning, as Memphis scored six runs on six hits before the second out was recorded.
After the Bees took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Corey Myers, Memphis loaded the bases with no outs. Brian Martin, who drove in four runs in the game, delivered a two-run double that put the Redbirds ahead to stay.
Adam Pavkovich went 4-for-4 with a home run for the Bees, while Erick Aybar had two hits and a stolen base.
Jeff Heaverlo tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the Bees, who had their six-game road-winning streak end. Memphis snapped a seven-game skid.
Another streak that came to an end was a nine game hitting streak for Jeff Mathis, who went 0-for-4.
